The Pioneer Inn hearkens back to another era, when Lahaina was the whaling capitol of the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1901, the inn capitalizes on its historic atmosphere, showcasing swinging saloon doors and a wraparound veranda on its second floor. But its offerings are all modern, as the inn has been substantially remodeled since its inception. While it consistently offers some of the best room rates you’ll find in Maui, the inn’s amenities aren’t sparse -- among them are free parking, a ticket office, and an outdoor swimming pool. You won’t go hungry here, either; Pioneer Inn boasts a saloon and two restaurants.
Pioneer Inn is located in the heart of old Lahaina about 100 yards from the harbor, close to whale tours, snorkel trips and fishing. Historical walking tours begin just outside its front door. The inn also overlooks Banyan Tree Park, where a massive banyan tree -- the largest in the United States -- anchors a huge green space that often plays host to native craft demonstrations and fairs.
